Up until this week the way most Shopify app developers monitored their position on the App Store was to use SASI (The Shopify App Store Index). That’s no longer available but we now have a free replacement with AppNavigator.

SASI was originally developed by Union Works and was then acquired in May 2024 by Mantle. One of the most useful parts of SASI was a daily email which would show the ranking of Shopify Apps for specific keywords and categories.

Unfortunately Mantle is “winding down” later this year and the SASI keyword reports have already been taken offline.

Enter AppNavigator

We’ve been tracking the positions of our Ablestar apps on the Shopify App Store since 2018. In 2023 we decided to make the data publicaly available and launched appnavigator.io. The data was similar to SASI but went a bit deeper on the review side. For example, it’s possible to see all apps that a store has left a review for.

With the end of SASI it was a natural step to add keyword monitoring to AppNavigator. We already had historical data for lots of keywords and the infrastructure in place to monitor the app store.

So now you can receive daily reports on your app’s ranking in the Shopify App Store with AppNavigator.

How to Track Shopify App Keywords

To receive alerts for an app, search for it on AppNavigator and just click on the ‘Follow’ button near the top of the page. Once you confirm your email, or sign in with Google, you’ll see a section on the page where you can enter your keywords:

Once you save that you’ll start receiving a daily email report. The report will include all the apps you’re tracking and covers:

  • Review count and average rating
  • Category ranking
  • Keyword ranking

When you’re logged in to AppNavigator you can also go to your Dashboard. From there you can see all the apps you’re following and edit the keywords.

Have any Suggestions?

Feedback has been positive so far but I’m always interested in how we can make things better. If there’s anything you feel like could be improved just let me know and we’ll take a look. We’ve already made several improvements based on suggestions and we’d love to hear more.

To get started you can just go to appnavigator.io and start following your apps.
